"Under the Law"
by Rav Sha'ul

There are 613 mitvot, if we fail to keep one law we are guilty of the entire law correct?

I'm going to address two points here.
  • First - are we guilty of the entire law if we try and keep it and fail.  NO.  That is the entire meaning of the ONE new command to be in covenant with Yahusha.  Yes, if we deny the Messiah we will be judged by the Law and held to account with the Torah as the standard of YHWH's judgment.
  • Second - About the 613 Laws.  I want to help you understand, “Under the Law” is a very specific expression still used today to explain “jurisdiction.”   Not all 613 Laws have "jurisdiction" over you.  For instance, if you are an average man, you are not a woman, or a Levi, a King, etc.
Note.
Per 1 John there is ONE new command.  That is to be in covenant with Yahusha to be covered by the blood of the Passover Lamb for our transgressing the laws as we attempt to keep them out of love.  We DO NOT keep them to be justified, we keep them because we love YHWH and desire to come to know Him and be righteous before Him.

FIRST - Are we guilty of the entire Law if we try to keep it and fail?
The book of Galatians is the most often quoted book to argue against the Torah. There is a good reason for this.  The Galatians, a group of Gentiles who came to faith in Yahusha, decided to cast away Yahusha and become Jewish proselytes (under pressure from Jews). They were trying to become Jews and forget the Messiah. Paul makes a strong argument for why the teaching of the Messiah is the proper understanding of the Torah and those who oppose the Messiah don’t understand the Torah.

Paul is stressing to these new Gentiles (who were in danger of abandoning the ONE new command to be in covenant with Yahusha in exchange for Judaism) that OUTSIDE of the Messiah, if they seek justification in the Law (which the Law was never intended to provide, it is a TUTOR only to lead us to FAITH by which we are justified) that they would be judged outside of Grace by the letter of the Law/Torah by YHWH.  And they would be found guilty by the Law of YHWH outside of Grace for violating even 1 command.

Paul was stressing to them the MEANING and IMPORTANCE of what the Messiah has done.  Brought GRACE in light of our transgressing the Law thereby FULFILLING the Law NOT abolishing it.
SECOND - Do All 613 Laws Have Jurisdiction Over Me?
Under the Law” is a very specific expression still used today to explain “jurisdiction.”   For example, you live in Michigan and you are not "Under Texas Law".  There are many commandments and instructions in Torah. They, too, have jurisdictional elements. Some commandments have specifically to do with the land of Israel. Some have to do with the station of life you are in (King, Priest, etc). Commandments for men are not always applicable to women or children. There are commandments for priests; if you are not a priest, they don’t apply. Paul is trying to explain how things are justified.

When you boil it down, the ones that apply to the average person are summed up in the 10 Commandment.  The Laws of Love.
Both Paul and Yahusha go into detail (through parables) to describe this concept of jurisdiction.  Not all people are under the jurisdiction of all Laws.  If you are an average person (not a King or a Priest or a Righteous Judge):
  • The Laws that apply to the Temple and the Temple Priests do not apply.
  • The Laws that apply to sacrices and ceremony do not apply.
  • If you don't take the vow of a Nazarite, the Laws concerning Nazarites don't apply.
  • If you are not a Priest, the Laws concerning Priests do not apply.
  • If you are not a Judge, the Laws concerning Judges and conduct of Judges don't apply.
  • If you are not a King, the Laws concerning Kings do not apply.
  • Etc. etc.
So you can pretty much cut the 613 in half right off the bat.  If you are a man, you can eliminate the Laws pertaining to women (ritual purity and cleanliness).  If you are a woman you can eliminate the ones pertaining to men... etc.  So as a man you can cut the 613 down to about 200 or so.  Now you get into sexual relationships.  If you are not a homosexual or rapist or in to having sex with animals or relatives... well  cut the number down even more.

My point is this.  The Laws that are left are summed up in the 10 Commandment.  That is why Yahusha summed them up in the Laws of Love.  Love YHWH and Love your Brother.  The first 5 Commandments are how you love YHWH, the second 5 are how you love your Brother.  If you do that, you don't have to worry much about breaking any of the Laws that apply to the normal person.

But... what if you are a Teacher or a Righteous Judge or a take the vow of a Nazarite or a Levi or a called to serve in a very high position of authority in His Kingdom as a King or a Priest?  YOU BETTER KNOW THE TORAH ...  Because SOMEONE has to teach those called to authority.

Zechariah 14 is prophecy concerning the Millennial Reign. It is the TORAH that flows forth from Jerusalem as the standard of Yahusha’s government. The entire planet keeps all of YHWH Commandments, Feasts, and Sabbath.

This is why Yahusha said if you teach the Torah you will be GREATEST in the Kingdom of YHWH.  If you teach other to break it, you will be LEAST.
