3 Principle Foundations and 7 Gifts of YHWH

Question:

 

HI Paul,

I would like to discuss Hebrews 12:18-22 in conjunction with Galatians 4:21-31.

Please give me your take on this.  I see it as stating that the Torah which came 430 years after the promise of the seed to Abraham (Gal 3:17) was given at SINAI, and was not a permanent set of binding ordinances. 

The Greek words ENTOLE and ENTALMA used in Ephesians 2:15 and Colossians 2:22 prove the separation of the words "commandments" with an "s" on the end, as to which means God's commandments at SINAI and which are
doctrines of man.  Paul used a very specific word in Ephesians 2:15 to describe the Sinai covenant's commandments.  ENTOLE. 

I would like you to comment on the Hebrews 12:18-22 set of passages first, and tell me what this means to you.  Also, the similar parable at Galatians 4:21-31 where Paul likens the Sinai covenant to the two women.  One with the promise, the other in bondage.

Dee,

 

You covered a lot of ground with that question.  Let me break it up. I would never refer to YHWH's Commandments written by the very finger of God... "doctrines of men".  I would, however, call the doctrine that YHWH's Commandments have been abolished just that, a doctrine of men.  As we will discover clearly there is no such doctrine in His Word.  Only mis-understandings, mis-translations, and disobedience resulting in false doctrines.  So please be patient with me on this one reply.  It is long but probably the most important reply I can give you.  And it is this email that will serve as a reference to my understanding of every question you ask me from here on...

 

We must first establish a foundation if we are ever going to come to wisdom, knowledge, and understanding concerning the writings of the Apostle Paul.  Before I get to the meaning of Hebrews 12 and Galatians 4,  Let me first establish 3 principle foundations from which our understanding must be based:

 

  1. The Holy Law of YHWH was active and eternal at the time of Adam, communicated and understood at the time of Moses.
  2. What was given at Sinai IS a permanent set of commands for Israel.
  3. These commands still apply to Remnant Israel, the Elect sons of YHWH today and forever.
I will do just that below.  I will show that YHWH's Law was active from Adam until now as demonstrated, because all men die.  Because death is the penalty of the Law.  I will show it is an eternal covenant with Israel and applies now to Remnant Israel the TRUE elect, chosen sons of YHWH, to whom belong the 7 Gifts of YHWH:
--- 1.) Adoption as sons of YHWH
--- 2.) To be the Glory of YHWH
--- 3.) The "Law" which is the Torah
--- 4.) The Temple of YHWH
--- 5.) The Promises of YHWH (forgiveness, resurrection, eternal life, dominion, inheritance)
--- 6.) The "fathers" - they are of the bloodline descending from Abraham, Isaac, Jacob
--- 7.) And the Messiah
So if the Word can be shown to clearly declare His Law eternal to Israel, and that we ARE Israel ... then we must apply that foundation when trying to understand metaphors and parables pertaining to physical and spiritual "mountains" in Hebrews and so forth.  And if we cannot find an explanation for Paul's writings that bring Paul in harmony -  with his other statements, and more importantly with: Yahusha, the rest of the Apostles, the Prophets, and YHWH Himself... then we have a problem.  We must conclude Paul is a false teacher.  Which many have come to that conclusion.  I am in no way one of them.  I have a full understanding of exactly what Paul's mission was and what he was saying.  And I will give you my understanding which brings Paul's writings in total harmony with the rest of the Gospel.

Foundational Principle #1
The Holy Law of YHWH was active and eternal at the time of Adam
only "communicated and understood" at the time of Moses

 

The Apostle Paul clearly teaches that even though at the time Adam lived,  YHWH (through progressive revelation over time) had not yet communicated His Holy Law to man.  The Holy Law was still active, and the penalty of disobedience was not imputed just because we were unaware of "what" sin was.  And the fact that many died for various offenses not related to what Adam did, was proof that the Holy Law of YHWH was a complex set of violations.  We simply were not aware of them until Sinai.  But YHWH's Holiness was the same at the time of Adam as it was at the time of Abraham, Moses, David, Yahusha, and you and I today.  And it is defined by His Holy Law.

Romans 5

12 Therefore, just as through one man (Adam disobeyed YHWH’s commands bringing death as promised in the Torah for transgression) sin entered the world, and death through sin (the penalty of sin is death), and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—13 For until the law came, sin (defined as violating His Law) was still in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law  (Adam was not aware of sin without the Law, but the Law was still valid and active even though he wasn't aware of it and the penalty for breaking it was active even at the time Adam sinned,). 14 Nevertheless (even without the Law, the penalty of the Law was active) death reigned from Adam to Moses (in otherwords, even though YHWH didn't communicate to man His Holy Law until Moses... it was very real, very active, and the penalty for violating it was not imputed simply because we were unaware of it), even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam (God’s Holy Law was more than just what Adam did, we just were not aware of "what" defined sin until the Law came, but that didn't impute the penalty for violating that which we knew not - until Moses was given the Law), who (Adam) is a type of (son of God) him (Yahusha) who was to come.

So not only was The Law a permanent set of binding ordinances from Moses on... it was retroactive back to Adam.

 

 

 

Foundational Principle #2
The Law given to Moses is a permanent ordinance for Israel for all time, everlasting, forever...

 

 

All Time, Eternal, and Forever... to Israel (His Sons)

Let me clearly establish that the commandments of YHWH are eternal to Israel -  the bloodline of Abraham/Isaac/Jacob.  They are for "all time", they are an "everlasting covenant", "forever". 

Deut. 4 (NIV)

 39 Acknowledge and take to heart this day that YHWH is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other. 40  Keep his decrees and commands, which I am giving you today, so that it may go well with you and your children after you (perpetual no end) and that you may live long (Eternal Life - physical to Spiritual parallel) in the land YHWH your God gives you (The Promised Land - Kingdom of YHWH - physical to Spiritual parallel) for all time (permanent ordinances).

So, we just read they are for you and your children for all time.

Isaiah 24:1-6 (NIV)

 5 The earth is defiled by its people;
       they have disobeyed the laws,
       violated the statutes
       and broken the everlasting covenant.

Isaiah declares the disobedience to The Laws of YHWH, the violation of these statutes, and the breaking of the EVERLASTING covenant, is the reason the earth is defiled and falls under a curse and is utterly destroyed at the end.

Exodus 31 (NIV)
The Sabbath

 12 Then the LORD said to Moses, 13 "Say to the Israelites, 'You must observe my Sabbaths. This will be a sign between me and you for the generations to come, so you may know that I am the LORD, who makes you holy. [a]

 14 " 'Observe the Sabbath, because it is holy to you. Anyone who desecrates it must be put to death; whoever does any work on that day must be cut off from his people. 15 For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day must be put to death. 16 The Israelites are to observe the Sabbath, celebrating it for the generations to come as a lasting covenant. 17 It will be a sign between me and the Israelites forever, for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he abstained from work and rested.' "

Here, YHWH Himself declares the Sabbath is THE SIGN between Himself and His Sons... FOREVER. 

 

Sin is Transgressing The Law

The Law was given to mankind to identify sin, and those standards have not changed or been abolished.

1 John 3:4-24

4   Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the Torah/Law: for sin is the transgression of the Torah/law (Paul clearly teaches this exact same thing.  The Law was given so that we may know what is Holy and identify sin).

Knowing YHWH is Keeping The Law

You cannot say you "know YHWH" and disregard His Holy Law.  Or YHWH will make you a liar and you will have no truth.

1 John 2:4
"He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments (Torah/Law), is a liar, and the truth is not in him."    
The Love of YHWH is demonstrated by Keeping The Law
The Law/Torah is not to be a "burden" but rather a guide for the physical son to understand a Spiritual Father who seeks through faith to please that Father in love:

1 John 5:3

For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome (WE KEEP THEM OUT OF LOVE NOT OBLIGATION, WE HAVE ALREADY BEEN JUSTIFIED THROUGH FAITH WHICH ACCORDING TO PAUL ESTABLISHES THE LAW.  That faith made evident by our obedience to the Law which is established by our faith.).

Faith in Yahusha Upholds the Law

Paul maintains that you are justified by obedience to The Law through faith in the Messiah who shed His blood as the Passover Lamb to bring grace in light of our inability to be perfect in obedience.

Romans 3:31 (NIV)

28 For we maintain that a man is justified by faith (in the promise of a Passover Lamb) apart from observing the law (only). 29 Is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too, 30since there is only one God (The Law and the promise of a Passover Lamb applies to both Jew/Gentile alike), who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith. 31 Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law.

Righteousness is obedience to The Law - Faith without Works of the Law is Dead Faith

It is in obedience to The Law/Torah that you please YHWH.  He is pleased that you love Him enough to serve Him in loving obedience through faith.  Resulting in right standing:

Romans 2:13 (New International Version)

13For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.

The Word teaches we are saved through faith.  But faith without works (obedience to The Law) is dead.  Abraham was saved through faith AS DEMONSTRATED by his WORKS as he was obedient to the command of YHWH to sacrifice Isaac.  It would never have been reckoned to Abraham as faith if he had not obeyed the command.  Abraham's faith outside of works would have been dead.  It was in obedience to the command that his faith was proven, demonstrated, and declared.

Abiding in The Messiah is Walking in obedience to The Law as He Walked

John teaches the definition of "abiding in" Yahusha is not just talking the talk, but walking the walk as exampled by Yahusha.  He specifically identified the "old commandments" which they had from the beginning, the Torah.  Yahusha kept the Torah/Feasts/Sabbath as an example to all those who would follow Him.  And in doing so John added one simple commandment which is the RENEWED COVENANT... to believe in Yahusha as the fulfillment of the Passover Lamb to cover your transgression of The Law or Torah and receive grace and eternal life.  That is the definition of fulfilling The Law.  It lacked the final sacrifice for sin and grace to cover our inability to keep it out of love.

1 John 2

6   He that saith he abideth in him (is in covenant with Yahusha) ought himself also so to walk (be doers not talkers), even as he walked (follow Yahusha’s example… by keeping YHWH’s Commandments).
7   Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning (at the time there was no New Testament, 1 John is teaching the Torah). The old commandment (Torah) is the word which ye have heard from the beginning (given in covenants, commandments, feasts, Sabbath and that word is the Commandments of YHWH).
8   Again (here is the only new one), a new commandment I write unto you (in context you must believe in and be in covenant through Yahusha the Messiah), which thing (Spirit) is true in him (Yahusha) and in you (the Spirit of Truth): because the darkness (of Law without Grace) is past (shadows/portraits/prophesies concerning the coming Messiah), and the true light now shineth (the Messiah has COME!  And shown us the way unto salvation providing Grace to fulfill and make whole the Law/Torah).

The Law is active until Heaven and Earth are Destroyed - Yahusha came to fulfill not destroy The Law and the Prophets

And while establishing the foundation or boundaries from which to discuss YHWH's Holy Law and the writings of Paul, we must never contradict the Messiah's own words in trying to formulate a doctrine that abolishes The Law.  You will say to me "all things were accomplished at the cross".  Yahusha clearly disagreed with that statement.  As many prophesies were yet to be and remain unfulfilled including the Fall Feasts, second coming, first resurrection, 1,000 year reign, etc..  And Yahusha defined what He meant by "accomplished" when He said "until heaven and earth disappears" that is not until the second resurrection when heaven and earth are destroyed.  And you and I are still standing on this Earth and the Heavens are still stretched out above us... So until that time in the future which is still over a 1,000 years away... Not one Jot or Title of the Law and the Prophets shall be done away with.  He simply brought them to their fullness Spiritually upon the first advent, but all is not accomplished by Yahusha's own definition.  And notice, Yahusha said exactly what He meant.. whoever practices the Law and teaches others the Law will be called GREAT in the coming Kingdom of YHWH.

Matthew 5

The Fulfillment of the Law

 17" Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

 

 

Foundational Principle #3
The Law still applies to Remnant Israel, the Elect sons of YHWH

 

 

Do they apply to us today?  This depends on whether we consider ourselves sons of YHWH, Remnant Israel or not.  The Elect is called "Remnant Israel".  Paul clearly understood this and taught that those taken (chosen) from among the gentiles and from among the Jews are called “Remnant Israel”.  And to this remnant elect chosen sons of YHWH belong 7 Gifts from YHWH.  One of which is The Law.

 

I want to impress upon you that all is as YHWH destined and clearly prophesied.  The two houses (Israel and Judah) are still currently in rebellion each in their own way.  A remnant from both houses as prophesied in these very last of days are being Re-united into Remnant Israel which I will define below.   

 

  

 

Definition of Spiritual Israel called Remnant Israel 

 

Spiritual Israel is a subset of the physical descendants of Jacob called Remnant Israel.  The descendants of Jacob were defined by his 12 sons.  They descended into 12 tribes of peoples.  From there they were formed into two Kingdoms. 

  1. The Kingdom of Israel (called in prophecy the House of Israel) which were 9 tribes.
  2. and the Kingdom of Judah (called in prophecy the House of Judah or the Jews) which were 3 tribes.

The House of Israel was taken into Assyrian captivity and dispersed over the entire globe to become many great nations in fulfillment of the Birthright Blessing.  The House of Judah was taken into Babylonian captivity, came out with the Scepter Blessing to make the sacrifice, and was later dispersed by the Roman Empire in AD70. Spiritual or Remnant Israel are those chosen, elect few, taken from both the House of Israel (called Gentiles or not of the House of Judah) and the House of Judah (called the Jews).

 

We know that the children of Israel or descendants of Abraham became many great nations and a multitude of people covering the entire globe as YHWH promised Abraham.  And later confirmed to Moses that all people on earth would be divided by the sons of Israel:

 

Duet. 32:8

8When the Most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel.

And we know from history the migrations of and ancestry of many nations and peoples on Earth have their beginning with Israel.  The "Jews" are a very small nation and do not comprise all of "Israel".  They are but a small subset of physical Israel.  And only a small number of Jews make up His Chosen People, along with a small number of Gentiles from whom a number of the House of Israel will be taken.  Together, these two small groups, a remnant from both Houses, will be called to be sons of YHWH and they are known as Remnant Israel or Spiritual Israel or the "sons of God" by His gracious choice.

 

So the fact is that YHWH's sons are scattered among ALL nations on Earth.  And the Elect will be called out of all nations.  They will literally be physical descendants of Israel, but THEY WILL HAVE LOST THEIR IDENTITY (and not know they are of the bloodline of Jacob):

 

Duet. 32:26

 26 I said, I would scatter them into corners, I would make the remembrance of them to cease from among men:

 

But NOT ALL physical descendants of Israel will be saved.  ONLY a remnant taken from among both Houses...

 

Romans 9

 God's Sovereign Choice of the Remnant 

27 Isaiah cries out concerning Israel:  "Though the number of the Israelites be like the sand by the sea, only the remnant will be saved."

 

It was prophesied by Isaiah and confirmed by Paul that ONLY a remnant from the bloodline of Israel would be saved.  Paul was the one chosen to understand the meaning of the two comings and the true meaning of "Israel" being a Remnant from AMONG the Jews (House of Judah) and from AMONG the gentiles (where the House of Israel had been scattered).

 

Remnant Israel - and the 7 Perfect Gifts of YHWH to His Sons

 

Romans 9:4-5

To the "Israelites" belong 7 things granted to them as gifts from YHWH:

--- 1.) Adoption as sons of YHWH
--- 2.) To be the Glory of YHWH
--- 3.) The "Law" which is the Torah
--- 4.) The Temple of YHWH
--- 5.) The Promises of YHWH (forgiveness, resurrection, eternal life, dominion, inheritance)
--- 6.) The "fathers" - they are of the bloodline descending from Abraham, Isaac, Jacob
--- 7.) And the Messiah

 

NOT to the Gentiles. These belong to Israel!  But WHO is Israel?  This is paramount to our understanding because Remnant Israel are the only ones saved.  Paul explains it is a chosen few from among both Houses. Now, Paul defines and clarifies that it is REMNANT ISRAEL that are the true sons of God to whom these 7 things belong to.  Verse 6 - Paul declares the WORD OF GOD HAS NOT FAILED. His people are still Israel!  The bloodline that runs through Abraham/Isaac/Jacob.  BUT, Paul confirms the prophets that not EVERYONE born in that bloodline are sons of God. ONLY a remnant. "For they are not all Israel (not everyone who descended from Jacob is part of that remnant) who are descended from Israel", but only a Chosen Remnant will be saved.

Paul goes into a long explanation of how the sons of God are predestined and not determined simply based on the bloodline alone.  In other words, they are from the bloodline but a SUBSET of that bloodline and chosen by YHWH.  Not everyone in that bloodline are saved.  Demonstrating God has CHOSEN ONLY A REMNANT from the bloodline of Israel who is scattered across the globe, who have lost their identity completely, but are still chosen.

In verse 24 Paul then declares that REMNANT ISRAEL is called from "AMONG" Jews (House of Judah), but also from "AMONG" the Gentiles (House of Israel, the lost sheep had been scattered AMONG the Gentile nations).   Paul finally got it.  That the Messiah HAD to come twice.  The first time to restore the lost sheep and call out the Chosen lost among the Gentile nations by blinding the eyes of the Jews.  The second time to restore and save the House of David and call out the chosen from among the House of Judah.  Together both chosen from both houses are Remnant Israel.

 
Romans 9:24
24 even us (Remnant Israel in context), whom he also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles?

Then in verse 25, Paul quotes from the First Prophet to the House of Israel... Hosea, a prophecy spoken by Hosea to THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL who had been given a certificate of divorce and scattered among the Gentile nations... 

Romans 9:25

"I will call those who were not My People (the House of Israel whom God had divorced) ´My People´ and who were not beloved, ´Beloved´ (the promise God made to restore the House of Israel through the prophet Hosea)... "  "And it shall be in the place (Gentile nations where they were scattered) where it is said to them (House of Israel) ´you are not My People´ (because YHWH divorced them and their remembrance as descendants of Jacob had ceased), there (in those foreign countries YHWH will call back a remnant of the House of Israel) they (remnant of the House of Israel) shall be called sons of the Living God (the restoration of the House of Israel back to YHWH)."

 

This was Paul's commission -  to do what Yahusha had come to do which was to reclaim the Lost Sheep of the House of Israel and save a remnant from among them.  And then in the next verse Paul again quotes from the prophet Isaiah who also (along with EVERY OTHER PROPHET) prophesied the re-unification of the Remnant of Israel (both Houses) back to YHWH...

 

Romans 9:27

And Isaiah cries out concerning (Remnant Israel to whom the 7 promises belong) "Though the number of the sons of Israel (both Houses scattered among all the nations) be as the sand of the sea (fulfilling the blessing to Abraham)... IT IS THE REMNANT (Israel) THAT SHALL BE SAVED"

 

Paul was given UNIQUE revelation that YHWH's word and promises to all Israel did not fail.  YHWH sent the Messiah TWICE, first to reclaim the lost sheep of the House of Israel, and then to re-unify the two houses and call out a remnant who are His sons.  Called Remnant Israel.  And to Remnant Israel or the Chosen, Elect, sons of YHWH, belong the following Gifts of YHWH:

And Yahusha too understood this same Truth. He came first as the Messiah ben Joseph (Messiah to the House of Israel) to RECLAIM that remnant from the House of Israel back to YHWH. Yahusha made this clear, "I came for the LOST SHEEP OF THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL" .  Then Yahusha returns as the Messiah ben David or Messiah to the House of Judah to RECLAIM the remnant from among the Jews. 

As I have just demonstrated, Paul knew it was Remnant of Israel that would be saved from both Houses.  Some from among the House of Judah (Jews) and some from the House of Israel from among the Gentile nations where they had been scattered in fulfillment of The Prophets.  That, is what Paul was clearly saying in Romans. And Paul was clearly teaching the Torah, Feasts, Sabbath, Covenants, Temple, Promises, Bloodline, and Messiah... belong to the sons of God... Remnant Israel.

 

 

Summary

 

 

To summarize, there are 3 principle foundations from which to address the teachings of the Apostle Paul. 

  1. The Holy Law of YHWH was active and eternal at the time of Adam, communicated and understood at the time of Moses.
  2. What was given at Sinai IS a permanent set of commands for Israel.
  3. These commands still apply to Remnant Israel (those taken from among Jews and Gentiles), the Elect sons of YHWH today and forever.
Those saved from among men are called Remnant Israel.  They are taken from among the Gentile nations where the House of Israel was scattered and lost their identity.  And they are taken from among the Jews or House of Judah.  And to Remnant Israel the TRUE elect, chosen, sons of YHWH to whom belong the 7 Gifts of YHWH to His Chosen Family:
--- 1.) Adoption as sons of YHWH
--- 2.) To be the Glory of YHWH
--- 3.) The "Law" which is the Torah
--- 4.) The Temple of YHWH
--- 5.) The Promises of YHWH (forgiveness, resurrection, eternal life, dominion, inheritance)
--- 6.) The "fathers" - they are of the bloodline descending from Abraham, Isaac, Jacob
--- 7.) And the Messiah
We have already clearly demonstrated that the Torah was given to "Israel" which was the physical to Spiritual parallel of the sons of YHWH.  And it was eternal, forever, and for all time.  And Paul clearly teaches that it remains a GIFT of YHWH to His Chosen Sons...
 
Now, with that foundation and those gifts in mind... let us address Hebrews and Galatians and the metaphorical parable of the mountain and all that Paul wrote.  And we will find Paul was deeply committed to the Torah.  He was a Torah MASTER and for that reason he was chosen to teach and reclaim the Lost Sheep of the House of Israel who had been scattered among the Gentile nations.  And we will see what a masterful job Paul did in bringing them out of their rebellion back to their Father through GRACE.
